Creative Valentine’s Day ideas for him

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.  6 weeks in to the year and it’s time to go shopping again.  Before overheating the credit card again why not have a look at your bank account?  Have you budgeted what you would like to spend?

Going crazy this month on a gift for your loved one is a nice thought, especially if you don’t get caught up in the moment and spend next month’s rent money.  If you’re anything like me you don’t really budget for V. Day.  A few candles and a nice meal is all it takes to make this girl happy.  If you’re a bit the same, but you still enjoy the fun of gift giving and surprising your man, why not go quirky and creative this year?

Inexpensive doesn’t have to be cheap. As a bonus there is an increasing amount of literature to tell us that it’s experiences not material items that provide that warm feeling that comes back time and time again in the form of memories.  Money, money, money makes the world go round.  But it’s worth remembering in our pursuit of the perfect gift, material things come and go, it’s the memories that last forever.

Finding an experience that helps your Valentine feel the love is easy.  Here’s a few things to inspire you and get your creative juices going:

  • Plan a surprise outing – maybe a picnic full of home-made goodies by the beach
  • Movie & chill – think mood lighting, a comfy couch and a good thriller/action movie to use as an excuse to get scared and hold on
  • Set up a space to give him a massage – you need the right spot, some oil and candles. Take the time to check the internet and brush up on techniques if it’s been a while
  • Rent a tandem bike & go for an evening ride, finish it off with a champagne or ice-cream under the stars
  • Sexy Scrabble

For the more traditional who would like to present their man with a token.  Here are some quirky gifts ideas that are creative and easy on the wallet:

Creative (and easy on the wallet) gift ideas:

  • Make your own label for a bottle of wine or 6 pack of beer – Office Works will print as stickers
  • Buy a voucher to take a cooking class together
  • Make him a calendar with special dates on it, throw in a few things to do together
  • Go retro – find out what he used to like as a kid and see if you can find a t-shirt on eBay
  • “I love you because” printable – make a print and put it in a frame, leave a space at the bottom that you can fill in any time of the year for your man to feel the love all year round

Whatever you do and whatever you decide, remember the spirit of the day, and that’s for your true love to feel the warmth of your love on this day.
